Unity History: Unity Health Plans Insurance Corporation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of University Health Care, Inc. (UHC). The University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority (UWHC) and the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation (UWMF) are members of UHC. UW Health is the academic medical center and health system for the University of Wisconsin. UW Health includes the renowned UW Hospital, American Family Children's Hospital, the Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center and UW Medical Foundation. 2008 -- Unity receives the Silver Award from WELCOA for its employee health and wellness program. 2007 -- Unity receives a third Excellent Accreditation from the National Committee of Quality Assurance NCQA for its commercial HMO and POS plans. 2005 -- Unity becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of University Health Care, Inc. Unity receives a second Excellent Accreditation from NCQA for its commercial HMO and POS plans. 2002 -- Unity receives an Excellent Accreditation status from NCQA for its commercial HMO and POS plans. 1998 -- Unity introduces Fitness First, one of the area's first exercise reward program. 1997 -- UHC, UWHC and UWMF adopt a new identity known as UW Health. 1994 -- Unity Health Plans Insurance Corporation was formed by combining membership of HMO of Wisconsin Insurance Corporation and U-Care HMO, Inc. 1983 -- HMO of Wisconsin Insurance Corporation was formed as one of the nation’s first rural-based HMOs.
