Manager, Molecular Pathology Lab

Overview

The Pathology team is seeking a Molecular Pathology Lab Manager. Experience performing and evaluating immunohistochemistry and/or in situ hybridization is essential. Interpretation of labeled specimens requires an understanding of anatomy and histology and an ability to identify specific cell populations in tissue sections. Quantitative morphometrics and/or AI-assisted image analysis will be a component of the role. Multiple imaging modalities will be employed including chromogenic and multiplex fluorescence microscopy, spatial-seq, and when applicable confocal and electron microscopy.

Responsibilities

Laboratory Management:

  • Oversee laboratory workflows related to advanced molecular techniques including immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
  • Manage a group of 4 or more people with growing molecular and image analysis expertise
  • Ensures compliance and alignment with all EH and S initiatives within the Molecular Pathology Laboratory
  • Experience instituting and maintaining Laboratory Information Systems
  • Operates within a quality management system and collaborates with quality assurance and regulatory team to improve laboratory processes, optimize methods, and develop quality analytics
  • Responsible for authoring, reviewing, and revision of pathology lab related SOPs and Policies
  • Experience with online ordering of lab materials, reagents, as well as maintaining inventory of lab supplies
  • Ensures ELN (electronic lab notebooks) are kept up to date in a complete and consistent manner, following all legal requirements as well as keeping clear and complete record
  • Maintains a schedule of molecular pathology laboratory-related activities for both in-house and out-sourced research studies
  • Supports validation of new assays and instruments for molecular histology

Scientific & Technical Leadership:

  • Maintains knowledge of scientific technological developments by reading the current literature and attending professional conferences to develop innovative concepts, which may lead to new assays, equipment requests, and/or procedures.
  • Participates in planning and execution of eDEV and research projects. This includes helping review protocols and aligning laboratory resources.
  • In collaboration with pathologists, may present experimental results to senior scientific staff
  • May prepare and/or contribute to articles for publication.
  • Develop relationships with teams within eDEV and broader ReDev to enhance collaboration and streamline processes.

  • Act as Team Leader for Molecular Histology team
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in life sciences field/+10 years industry experience
  • ASCP Histotechnician certification(s)
  • Routinely demonstrates initiative that has direct impact on the pathology labs operation, improvement and refinement.
  • Ability to communicate and present complex scientific information to scientific and non- scientific audiences.
  • Ability to make decisions autonomously and requires minimal guidance to perform job duties.
  • Communicates openly and directly with laboratory group, departmental and cross-functional scientific groups, and management.
  • Proven leadership abilities and project management, evidenced by history of successful project delivery and successful timelines completed
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    o BS in life sciences with 5-10 years of relevant laboratory experience or Masters degree with 3+ years of relevant laboratory experience.Essential skills:
  • Demonstrated ability performing IHC and/or ISH (including multiomic spatial profiling).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage lab staff and laboratory operations
  • Experience in biotechnology or CRO-based pathology laboratory setting
  • Experience with Ventana, Leica or other automated immunostainers
  • Experience with ACD RNAscope
  • Experience with data entry, ELN, LIMS systems
  • Desirable skills:
  • Experience collecting and reporting laboratory metrics
  • Solid report writing skills
  • Experience performing AI-assisted image analysis and quantitative morphometrics (ie HALO etc)
