Manager, Mobility Hub & Fleet Operations

Role Summary:

As the Manager, Mobility Hub & Fleet Operations, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient execution of the public road-testing efforts within the Austin terminal, all the while collaboratively directing the team to achieve key company objectives.

As Volkswagen Group of America expands the autonomous vehicles branch within the United States, this role will be vital for seamless operations within the terminal and effortlessly executing global objectives to further the company's efforts working towards commercialization in the future.

As a people manager, you will be the main point of contact for the Austin hub, ensuring the culture of the people is developed and maintained. Proven leadership skills are essential and sought out for this position.

Pulling from years of management experience, it will be helpful to bring organizational aspects to curating forecasts for asset and personnel needs based on current business needs as we scale to commercial operations.

As the Manager, Mobility Hub & Fleet Operations, you oversee, as well as manage, the operating budget for multiple departments across the Austin hub, including, but not limited to, the facility, vehicle service operations, public road-testing personnel, operational associates and contracted security personnel. This role will communicate and interface regularly with ADMT and VWGoA teams, and leadership to establish the operations strategy, set goals, and report status. Time management and excellent communication skills will be needed to adhere to project deadlines.

Role Responsibilities:

Personnel and Resource Management

* Manage the Austin fleet. facilities, and personnel required to safely and successfully execute the vehicle tests in support of ADMT's Autonomous Driving Program.

* Supervise and mentor a diverse staff of test drivers, trainers, service technicians, engineers, contractors, and interns.

* Plan, recruit, and retain talent to meet the demands of ADMT's projected operational needs.

* Facilitate research, design, development, and engineering skill development for the team

* Make sound decisions regarding asset management, personnel needs and the readiness of the local city operations team Austin to take on new initiatives.

* Manage and prioritize all aspects of the vehicle fleet including the deployment, configuration, maintenance, and service.

* Manage the facilities required to support quality fleet operations - including garaging, servicing, charging, networking, as well as the office environment for all involved personnel

* Ensure that the ADMT facility and vehicle fleet operates in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and coordinate with local city and government officials as needed.

Cross-Department Collaboration

Coordinate with the Global ADMT team, particularly other ADMT vehicle test facilities, to plan activities and adopt best practices.

* Draft and deliver regular executive level reports/reporting to customers and stakeholders (partners, mentors, department heads, and top executives)

* Identify key areas if inefficiency, work cross-functionally to establish best practices, and create & implement standard operating procedures

* Identify necessary metrics and implement dashboards to analyze and report on fleet health, operational efficiency and more for the Austin hub and fleet.

Strategy & Directional Management

* Ensure performance goals are achieved and remain in alignment with the ADMT strategy

* Manage the internal and external budget for the Austin hub, as well as leading the strategic planning and managing milestone deliverables

* Operationalize objectives determined by leadership and develop a strategy to achieve goals set for the Austin terminal; incorporating other department leads in meetings to finalize plans, explore growth opportunities and track progress.

Years of Relevant Experience:



  • * 10+ years of professional work experience
  • * 5+ years of operational and people management experience



Education - Required:

* Bachelor's degree; Master's preferred

Valid Texas Driver's License required

Skills:

* Be a people-focused leader on our operations team to support both development and scaled commercial operations

* Ability to build a team of teams, cultivate employee engagement, and develop a sense of positive and productive culture around the terminal

* Ability to set department objectives that challenge and drive results

* Strong ability to communicate (verbal and written) succinctly and effectively to various global audiences, from engineers to partners to C-level executives

* Ability to work cross-functionally across product, engineering, safety, facilities, and real estate to ensure critical feedback from the road is communicated through the correct channels

* Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources

Communicate effectively during web-based meetings and collaborations on working documents, including in-person communication skills while working within the Austin terminal.

Specialized Skills - Required:

* Proven knowledge of Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, governing the use of commercial vehicles, as well as strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of vehicle systems, components, and design characteristics

* Project management skills and tracking tools

* Asset Management experience

* Must possess the physical ability to drive a vehicle

Specialized Skills - Desired:

* Understanding of autonomous vehicle technology

* Fleet management experience

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools or equivalent

* Flexibility to accommodate change and thrive amid ambiguity

* Passion for technology as an enabler for company growth

* Confidence under pressure especially within tight timelines

Work Flexibility:

* Ready and able to travel (international and domestic) to remote offices, training facilities or other testing cities subject to business needs

* Ability to adhere to a flexible work schedule during the daytime hours of 7:00am - 4:00pm CST (schedule subject to change with proper notice given)
