General Summary of Position

Job Summary:

MedStar Health is currently seeking a Community Dietitian to join its Food RX program at MedStar Harbor Hospital. In this position, you will be joining the Food Rx Program, a regionally based program in Baltimore, MD that helps reach individuals in the community with uncontrolled diabetes and food insecurity. This program helps people with diabetes to live healthier lifestyles; the Food Rx Program offers nutrition counseling, diabetes education, weight management, and meal planning. Food Rx participants have been shown to have reduced hemoglobin A1c levels, reduced with, less Ed visits, and improved glucose control.

Bilingual in English/Spanish is highly preferred

Primary Duties:

  • Work closely with Community Health Advocates at MedStar Harbor Hospital to address social needs of Food Rx patients.

  • Provide Diabetes education, nutrition counseling, weight management education, and meal planning to patients within the Food Rx Program.

  • Work with and report to the Regional Program Manager for the Food Rx and Mobile Health Center Programs.

  • Manage a food pantry by stocking shelves, maintaining food inventory, lifting >20 lbs.

  • Incorporate evidence-based strategies into the population health management of patients with complex medical and social needs, especially patient populations with food insecurity and uncontrolled diabetes.

  • Receive food deliveries up to 2,000 lbs. for program operations.

  • Collaborate with Food Rx patients and interdisciplinary teams to identify and build upon best practices and growth opportunities for the program.

  • Create education and presentation materials for Food Rx patients and the program overall.

  • Other responsibilities, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition/dietetics required

  • Registered Dietitian in state of Maryland required, or eligible to obtain MD licensure required.

  • 2 years of experience required

  • Spanish -speaking preferred

  • CDCES certification preferred

This position has a hiring range of $60,632 - $107,494
