Production Lead

This position requires a person with strong leadership skills who
is self-motivated and has a positive energized effect on others. This person
will be a role model for safety, quality, 6S, and for taking ownership for
delivering results. This position is a
working cell leader who will be contributing at least 75 percent of time
manufacturing product. Success will be measured by year after year improvements
in safety, quality, on time delivery.

Starting as a hardware supply store during the California Gold Rush and eventually assisted in the birth of the aerospace industry in Southern California by providing aircraft aluminum to early aerospace pioneers like Lindbergh, Douglas and Lockheed.

Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications.

Our Performance Center in Carson, CA is the Engineered Products Group site for our Human Machine Interface, Motion Control Device, and Radio Frequency (RF) product lines.

Job Summary

  • Maintain production flow and inform Operations Manager of any problems meeting production goals.
  • Identify production delays in order to minimize the overall manufacturing cycle and assign necessary personnel to complete production requirements.
  • Assignment of daily work tasks and priorities to employees in the department.
  • Resolution of quality, material and work instruction issues.
  • Be responsible for and monitor the progress of the daily care and upkeep of equipment and tools used in the work area.
  • Lead 6S efforts and set the example for all employees to follow.
  • Provide excellent workmanship guidance, direction and promote employee involvement in improvement programs and support of Company goals.
  • Work with the engineering staff to resolve process and quality issues.
  • Provide training to employees as required.
  • Represent and advocate for the Company by following and enforcing the documented Company policies.
  • Track employee performance over the evaluation period in order to provide substantive input into the annual evaluation documentation.
  • Provide performance feedback from employees working in the department.
  • Develop and implement countermeasures and action items to effectively address cell performance issues
  • Carries out lead responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work and assessing performance.
  • Be responsible for time and attendance in timekeeping system.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary (weekends included).
  • Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Basic word processing and spreadsheet capability required.
  • Good organizational, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand specifications and interpret drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls;reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus and no color blindness.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Annual vision test may be required.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Required Experience and Education

  • High School Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • One year of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Base Compensation: USD 24.00 - 28.00 Paid Hourly
