Job DescriptionThe Tutor will provide individual, small group, and/or lab and classroom tutoring and supplemental instruction, as well as guidance with homework using learning strategies that promote learning and critical thinking. Delivery of tutoring services may include face-to-face tutoring and/or through the use of other platforms or online tools. The Tutor pledges to actively engage in a Culture of Caring, striving to respond systematically to student needs and remove barriers that may prevent students from achieving their personal and professional goals.

Essential Functions

  • Employee will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students and members of the community

  • Provide tutoring services to designated students.

  • Establish/maintain effective communication with students, Program Advisor and Instructor

  • Maintain records to track student participation in tutoring.

  • Consult with instructor in preparation for tutoring and/or supplemental instruction and to develop short video tutorials

  • Promote and encourage student participation in tutoring and/or supplemental instruction through classroom presentations and/or other approved methods

  • Coordinate group study sessions throughout the semester in preparation for mid-term exams and final exams

  • Submit reports and all required documentation on a timely basis

  • Attend scheduled trainings

  • Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed

  • Participate in other program and campus activities and events, as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • Work experience with Hispanic and or low income students preferred

  • Prior teaching or tutoring experience preferred

  • 12 or more college credits earned 3.0 or above cumulative GPA

  • Major in content area of (or grade of "B" or higher earned in) all courses tutored

  • Must be in Good Standing as of the last semester attended

  • Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, organizational skills, customer service skills, and academic/technical skills related to the program and/or courses for which they will tutor.
