Howmet Aerospace's Wichita Falls, TX facility has an opening for Shell Removal Operators. Works under general supervision to remove shell from castings using the pneumatic hammer, low temperature KOH, water blast, case blast, or by manually hammering shell away. Removes oxide layer by operating abrasive blast, finish blast, zero blast equipment. Continuously works to meet quality customer requirements with minimum inventory. Works as a team member in a cell environment to optimize product flow.
1. Operates knockout machine to select pressures and cycle times to remove shell from castings.
2. Operates shot blast and low temp KOH, and water blast to remove shell.
3. Operates heat stamp to support cell workflow.
4. Operates abrasive blast, finish blast, zero blast equipment.
*5. Verify routings with castings to assure that all previous operations have been completed.
*6. Keeps heats separated.
*7. Selects and sets up fixtures for required task.
*8. Informs supervisor of required maintenance.
*9. Completes preventative maintenance as required.
*10. Obtains and moves work as required.
*11. Completes tasks per the PMS, or Activity Instructions, Product Criteria, or Temporary Instructions.
*12. Responsible for product quality while performing semi-routine task.
*13. Maintains a clean and orderly work area with a continuous goal to improve the
5S program.
*14. Responsible for safety and must wear required safety equipment.
*15. Operates effectively as a team member in a cell environment to meet customer requirements with minimum inventory.
*16. Must be able to move to various equipment without direction to optimize flow.
*17. Must strive to minimize work in progress (WIP).
*18. Must strive to decrease cycle and total departmental lead times.
*19. Must strive to eliminate scrap and rework.
20. May be required to perform other duties as required.
21. Ability to acquire knowledge for acceptable/non-acceptable requirements for castings by being able to interpret and understand visual specifications as outlined by our customers and engineers.
22. Complies with all EHS rules related to the work environment.
23. Works overtime as needed.
