Basic Function

As a member of the LYB-Bay City Quality team, you will be accountable for providing both technical and operational expertise for daily operations of the lab at our Bay City, MI facility. The individual will troubleshoot lab issues; ensure the calibration, certification, maintenance and reliability of laboratory Instrumentation. Assist in method development as well as daily administration of the lab. The Laboratory Specialist will assess training and developmental requirements of lab technicians; provide mentoring; work to continuously improve while reducing costs; implement Quality control assets to enhance unit reliability. Also work with the Chemists and Quality Technicians to provide leadership and optimization of Laboratory Resources.#LI-RH1

Roles & Responsibilities

- Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers, and promoting a safe work environment.

- Responsible for the Quality Database to ensure accurate and timely completion of routine and non-routine samples.

- Perform material testing for accuracy and ensure each standard applies to the site's process and capability.

- Assume ownership of selected laboratory instrumentation including calibration and minor maintenance.

- Aid in facilitating outside services performed on analytical and lab associated equipment.

- Resolve non-conformances in the laboratory

- Aid in the adherence to ISO Quality System requirements:

- Interface with technical, administration, and operations.

- Help maintain LIMSDS and SAP associated issues.

- May be assigned to additional duties within the Bay City Quality Department as needed.

Min. Qualifications

- The position requires a 4-year college degree plus a minimum of 1.5 years' laboratory experience in a manufacturing environment or a minimum of 7 years' experience in a chemical plant laboratory or analytical environment in lieu of a 4-year degree.

- Understands and properly uses work processes, procedures, and policies (SAP, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, etc.)

- Possesses and demonstrates a thorough understanding of plant chemical processes.

- Ability to quickly assess and problem solve analytical issues under time constraints.

- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident).

- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
