Job Summary

Under general supervision, this postion will develop and/or oversee research proposals, awards and/or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies.

The incumbent will work on proposals of moderate scope such as single / mulit investigator NIH proposals where analysis of financial information or reports requires review of a variety of factors (e.g. budgets, salaries, expenses, etc.).

The incumbent will work with a variety of faculty PIs to help them develop and manage their grant portfolios; analyze their spending and adjust time / effort disrtibutions; and will help develop financial recommendations that allow them to effective manage their research teams.

The incumbent will work with the department administrative team to prepare and submit regular reports and maintain compliance with UCSF policies and procedures and will assist the IND with special projects throughout the year.

This position will receive assignments on project basis and fully analyze problems, gather data and information, and recommend solutions.

The successful candidate will have a college degree, strong critical thinking skills, and experience working in a fast paced, customer-centered environment.

Department Description

The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) at UCSF is pursuing a cutting-edge blend of basic science and clinical medicine to provide outstanding care to those suffering from neurodegenerative diseases. Founded in 1999, the IND is committed to creating therapeutics that will halt diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and dementia resulting from traumatic brain injuries. The IND is poised to make serious contributions to this struggle at the frontier of neuroscience and medicine. The mission of the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases is to discover causes and develop cures for these illnesses with an innovative program of basic research and clinical medicine. The IND is directed by Nobel Laureate Stanley B. Prusiner, MD.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
• Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
• Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
• Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus.
• Writing skills to draft persuasive text for variety of audiences.
• Positive attitude

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Communications (or similar)
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines
• Knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
• Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
• Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
• Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
• Working knowledge of how to process UCSF journal entries
• Working knowledge of updating employee's funding in UCPath
