Position: Off Shift Nurse Manager

Schedule: 36 Hours Evening/Night, every 3rd weekend, rotating holidays

*This will be a mix of 8 and 12 hour shifts based on the needs of the department to cover all shifts throughout the schedule period.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Off-Shift Nurse Manager (OSNM) is a member of the nursing leadership team who functions in both an administrative role and as a clinical partner on the off shift to support and lead the bedside nurses. On the off shift the OSNM ensures the clinical team is delivering patient- focused care consistent with the hospital mission, departmental goals, while following established policy & procedures, and working within regulatory requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • coordination of and direct supervision of bedside nurses and ancillary staff members, as well as management of house wide staffing plans with a strong emphasis of meeting nursing division productivity goals

  • coordinates with ancillary leaders to ensure both human resources and non-human resources are readily available to ensure safe and efficient patient care

  • oversight of patient flow and throughput initiatives including coordination of patient placement from the emergency department, ORs and procedural areas, serving as the first line contact for providers while coordinating incoming transfers from primary and secondary care facilities

  • Leads/participates in daily bed huddles and hospital wide safety huddles to communicate bed status, and escalate safety concerns that occur on the off shift


EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:


  • Requires graduation from an accredited baccalaureate nursing program; MSN preferred

  • Requires license to practice professional nursing as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • BLS, PALS, ACLS preferred.


EXPERIENCE

All applicants must have at least 5 years of bedside, acute care nursing experience

  • Candidates with a strong desire to advance their career and education in nursing leadership strongly preferred

Internal Candidates:

  • 2-4 years of progressively responsible leadership experience, OR participation in nursing department councils and OR participation in quality improvement project work strongly preferred

External Candidates:


  • 2-4 years of nursing leadership in an acute care setting strongly preferred

  • 2-4 years of patient flow and patient placement experience strongly preferred

  • Computer/technology skills: demonstrates ability to access and enter data from EPIC EHR, excel, power point, Microsoft word, Microsoft outlook, web based shared drives

  • Team Work: demonstrates the ability to work with others toward a shared goal, share responsibility and rewards with team members, having the ability to recognize combined actions of the group leads to overall success of the team
