Position Overview

As a Career Transition Specialist, you will report to the Career Transition Services (CTS) Manager. This salaried, exempt position involves counseling WPA CTS assignees in all aspects of career transition, job search skills, job placement issues, job retention, and Job Corps CTS services and requirements. You will secure placement data for assignees and reconnect those who are no longer employed or in school with new opportunities. Your commitment to preparing young people for the workforce is demonstrated through modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards: workplace relations and ethics, information management, communications, multicultural awareness, personal growth and development, career and personal planning, interpersonal skills, and independent living.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate and abide by ODLE Core Values and operating principles.
  • Conduct interviews with students preparing to exit the center, providing re-orientation and job search techniques.
  • Create and maintain a caseload of active assignee files, establishing a tickler system for management, and maintain regular contact through phone or in person.
  • Attend meetings related to Career Transition student/process issues.
  • Visit classrooms and trade shops to familiarize students with CTS processes, employability skills, career preparation, job search, and job retention.
  • Provide workshops to exiting students and assigned caseload, and assist in planning and executing job fairs and career days.
  • Maintain linkages with military services, One Stops, and other external resources; secure job leads, set up interviews, and arrange support services.
  • Ensure all necessary licenses, certificates, transcripts, and documents for job search are completed before students exit.
  • Identify support services needed for independent living and make referrals.
  • Participate in the students' Career Assessment Panel.
  • Distribute assignee checks timely and inform them about related processes.
  • Meet regularly with center staff to facilitate contact and placement information.
  • Secure all Personally Identifiable Information and value items.
  • Initiate contact with "former enrollee" assignees prior to or soon after exiting the center.
  • Use 678 data and the CTS system for resources, and present job offers to students, especially those with lost placements.
  • Complete and submit data forms for all identified placements.
  • Track individual performance through POMS reports and reconcile any survey errors.
  • Provide additional assistance to meet department placement goals.
  • Attend required staff training sessions.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property, and adhere to safety practices.
  • Clearly communicate and model appropriate CSS and employability skills.
  • Foster a climate free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect, ensuring a safe place for staff and students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a related field; or an Associate's degree in these fields.
  • One year of experience in sales, marketing, or counseling.
  • Prefer Job Corps experience or four years of experience working with youth.
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
