Job Summary

Job Summary

Paraprofessionals are hired to the School to Work Transition Programs (STWTP), rather than a specific school or community site. Consideration for staffing needs and strengths may result in site adjustments. Para responsibilities include the following (with some variation depending on particular assignment):

  • Supporting the vocational education plans established by the work site teacher and/or the Employment Training Specialist
  • Responsible for recording observation notes for teachers incorporation into progress reports, report cards and performance profiles
  • Provide support to events hosted by the overall program
  • Duties are highly dependent upon the worksite and therefore, flexibility is a must. Para professionals will model universal work skills as well as job-specific duties.
  • Timeliness, patience, dependability, strong ethics and commitment are among the primary universal work skills needed
  • Extensive walking and some lifting may be necessary.
  • Proficiency in Milwaukee Public Schools technology systems is required (email, phone, Outlook Calendar, One Drive, etc.).

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid DPI license 0070-Special Education Program Aide License (5 year) within two months of hire date
  • Eligible participants will need to have completed 48 college credits or successfuly completed one of the following Paraprofessional Assessments:
    • WorkKeys ACT
    • Paraeducator Master Teacher
    • ParaPro Assessment ETS (offered through MPS)
  • Must hold a valid Wisconsin's driver's license at time of appointment (and throughout employment) and availability of a properly insured personal automobile for use on the job) car allowance provided)
  • Prefer experience with children/youth with disabilities
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for majority of work day; some lifting may be required

Starting Salary $22,218.26 - $30,936.50/year

Responsibilities

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive and escort all students to and from their transportation
  • Work in collaboration with the site teacher to implement vocational goals for students
  • Work in accordance with the requirements of both Milwaukee Public Schools and community work site policies and procedures
  • Modeling of exceptional work behaviors
  • Timely reporting of incidents or emergencies
  • Other duties as assigned
