Job Summary

This person works as a team to provide food service that is safe, accurate, timely, and responsive to the customer and patient's needs. This person is responsible for the preparation of food for Patient Food Services, Retail Food Services, and Catering Services. Other related duties include stocking, assembling, and serving portion-controlled hot and cold food, replenishing and stocking stations, and general sanitation duties. This person establishes and monitors food quality and temperature standards to ensure consistency and the highest quality standards for Nutrition & Food Services. This person maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of the food service areas and equipment. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer, patient, and staff interactions and is looked upon as the Culinary Ambassador for the Department of Nutrition & Food Services.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $36.23 - $36.23 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • High School diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • Graduation from a recognized Culinary School or 2 years of food production experience
  • Read, write, follow written or oral instructions, and be understood in English.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
  • Ability to meet physical demands involved with job duties as outlined below.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in training and developing culinary and other production staff Experience in the practice of HACCP standards

License/Certification


  • Two years of college or equivalent
  • Experience working in large-scale food production settings using industrial equipment such as blast chiller and steam jacketed kettles.
  • ServSafe certification
