Job Summary

The Radiology Supervisor in Mammography is responsible for having a current CRT with the State of California and a current Mammography Certification with the State of California. The Principle Technologist is responsible for performing screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound and all interventional and invasive procedures in the Mammography Department. Complies with all regulatory mandates for mammography.

The areas of responsibility for the Mammography Supervisor are supervising all technologists and ancillary support staff under their direct supervision, training new employees, organizing the work flow, coordination of daily work schedules and shift coverage, knowledgeable in all procedures, and enhancing image quality. They are accountable for overseeing day-to-day operations of the Imaging department and ensuring safe, efficient care of patients while maintaining fiscal responsibility for staff and supply levels.

They are responsible for the productivity of the department and staff. Strong leadership skills are essential. The ability to effectively communicate with staff, patients and family members as well as physicians and other health care providers is required.

The supervisors are a role-model and ambassador for the department and must provide exception customer service and service recoveries. Responsible for attending various operations, safety and scheduling meetings and communicating essential information to the staff.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $205,522 - $250,581 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Radiology Department is a specialty medical service that offers a wide range of imaging techniques to diagnose and treat a broad range of medical conditions. The Diagnostic Section utilizes ionizing radiation through the use x-rays, radiography and fluoroscopy. At UCSF Medical Center, we offer the full spectrum of techniques, using the most advanced equipment. Combined with Bone Densitometry, Mammography, CT scans, MRI, PET, Ultrasound and Interventional we perform more than 500,000 procedures annually. In fact, a number of radiology advancements and applications were developed here.

Required Qualifications


  • Licensed technologist in a radiology modality preferred.
  • CRT Requires (CRT) California Radiology Technologist
  • Requires CRT Mammography
  • BLS
  • 2-3 years previous supervisory experience
  • 10 years of imaging experience.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts, sites and Lead coverage for weekends and holidays
  • Ensures compliance with licensing and regulatory standards (Federal, State, and ACR) in Mammography including assurance of accurate audit of required statistics. Manage and help implement appropriate data collection of information needed to monitor clinical, operational, and financial outcomes, as well as MQSA QA/QC standards.
  • Clinical practice knowledge and applied background in a mammography modality. Knowledge of terms, concepts, and protocols. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in an acute care setting to improve operations.
  • Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant external regulations.
  • Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others. Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on radiology modality techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve services.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility, anticipates and effectively handles change.
  • Ability to organize division operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving Radiology processes, protocols, databases, and technology. Required
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, researchers, radiology technologists, and other clinical staff. Interpersonal skills to work with a variety of patient populations and show sensitivity.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate within and across departments.
  • Skills to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues and software malfunctions in order to contact appropriate service personnel. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions within defined procedures and policies through critical thinking
  • Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution. Demonstrates sound judgement.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups. Demonstrated abilities to listen actively, persuade, advise, and counsel.
  • Maintain and update the Breast Imaging Policy and Procedure manual.
  • Direct responsibility of personnel performance evaluations for Breast Imaging.
  • Collaborates with Regional Radiology managers regarding performance and reviews.
  • Provides assistance in making decisions on appropriate staffing, termination, and other personnel activities. Plans, implements, and evaluates staff development.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous management or supervisory experience in in healthcare environment is preferred.
  • ARRT
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

License/Certification


  • ARRT
  • CRT (if applicable to modality)
  • Modality Specific Certification (e.g. CT, MRI, RDMS, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine)
  • BLS
