Position Overview

The Engineer II is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and managing on-site construction engineering activities for construction of unique and challenging bridge and/or heavy civil and marine projects throughout the United States.

He or she will be responsible for reviewing and understanding the work planning process, resolving technical issues, and issue resolution. The ideal candidate will assist in approving shop drawings, quality control plans, safety plans, and applicable lift and work plans to assure work is being accomplished according to contract requirements.

He or she also reinforces Massman's Incident & Injury Free Initiative along with our corporate mission and vision statement in the daily performance of their work.

Key Responsibilities



  • Be an Incident and Injury Free Leader
  • Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, safety standards, and productivity goals
  • Provide technical input for project work plan and scheduling
  • Manage project engineering activities to ensure compliance with company, contract, and schedule requirements
  • Manage subcontractor and vendor schedules, performance, and payments, including strong decision-making to reschedule and/or re-coordinate work to ensure compliance with applicable project schedules
  • Meet daily with project crews to review production schedule and confirm all materials, equipment and resources are readily available for production to continue on schedule and within budget
  • Develop work plans with Superintendents and develop job hazard analysis plans for the crews to follow
  • Develop and maintain site logistics plan with Superintendent staff
  • Remit accurate project quantity input, controls, and cost coding to ensure project financials are accurately reported
  • Review project specifications for quality assurance at regular intervals
  • Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, and/or labor to determine project feasibility
  • Evaluate submittals and RFI's and takes appropriate action based on contractual requirements
  • Supervise, direct, and mentor junior engineering staff and/or interns to foster individual development and high-quality project standards
  • Ensure timely notices as required to the owner regarding extra work, design changes, delays, impacts, etc.
  • Review and approve daily timecards for construction crews, working with Office Manager, payroll and job construction supervisors as needed
  • Maintain daily records of quality, production, manpower, weather, and incidents in accordance with the company's procedures, compliance, and project requirements
  • Provide support for craft personnel, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and administrative operations as required



Minimum Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience within the heavy civil and/or marine construction industry



Preferred Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • 5-7 years' experience within the heavy civil and/or marine construction industry
  • Self-motivated and proven ability to lead collaborative efforts
  • Excellent grammar, composition, and verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Primavera P6 & Auto-Cad
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products
  • Experience with alternative project deliver methods, including Public Private Partnerships, Design-Build, CMAR/CM/GC, etc.
  • Experience working for state DOTs



Travel Requirements



  • Limited travel may be required



This position will be based in the Mobile, AL area, but relocation may be required in response to other opportunities.
