Job Summary:

This is the third level of the BC / EM Program classification hierarchy. Employees in this position provide governance and direction to advance essential enterprise interests by designing / maintaining the company's BC and EM Programs and help ensure effective implementation throughout the enterprise into individual business units. This role will: develop policy and guidance, establish strategies, goals and compliance / performance expectations, enable and support business unit specific implementations, build implementation capacity through processes / tool development / mentoring / best practice sharing, assess company and business unit performance and communicate plans / results to management and appropriate company organizations. Incumbents at this level are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures . They identify problems, develop solutions and take actions to resolve.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership for company business continuity and emergency management program processes (training, plan development, exercises, other)

  • Develop, or direct the development, of guidance for deploying BC/ EM policy, standards and expectations at both the enterprise and department levels

  • Partner / mentor / consult with business unit personnel regarding their business continuity / emergency management programs, including implementation and maintenance processes

  • Integrate with Audit to contribute significantly to the development and deployment of the BC / EM programs

  • Recommend enhancements to the company's BC / EM Program, identify and actively participate in select external groups (e.g., DRI, EEI, etc.), conferences, etc. to continually network with corporate leaders in the BC / EM profession, stay abreast of the best practices of other multi-national companies and incorporate these best practices, as appropriate

  • Assist in company response / mitigation actions during events which disrupt business operations

Basic/Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Minimum 5 years Required Related Work Experience

  • In lieu of degree(s) listed above, High School/GED AND 10 year(s) related work experience

Desired Qualifications:
  • Certified Business Continuity Professional within 1 year

  • Certified Emergency Manager within 1 year

  • Demonstrated experience in electric or gas utility operations (electric distribution / transmission, power generation plant, gas operations, etc.).

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with multiple internal departments and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience serving on business continuity or incident / emergency management teams or related activities.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing FEMA Incident Command System principles or training.

  • Demonstrated experience involving a BC or EM program at the company or business unit level.

  • Demonstrated experience in roles requiring strategy development or addressing business ambiguities.

  • Project Management certification (PMP or Six Sigma) Change Management, BPM or BA Certification

  • Demonstrated managerial experience.

Working Conditions:
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.

  • Primarily general office working conditions, with some field work.

  • Domestic overnight travel, as often as monthly for periods as longs as 3-4 days away from the normal office.

  • Occasional international travel is possible.

  • Working conditions may require support of business continuity / emergency response processes after normal business hours and for extended days / work hours due to actual emergency incidents
