Position Summary Information


Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Grades Education, STEM Education/ Mathematics focused, or closely related area
  • Three years minimum teaching experience in P-12 school settings


Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
This role will need to showcase content area expertise in mathematics with an ability to teach elementary grades education core and methods courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates with experience in curriculum development who can demonstrate scholarly potential are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidates meeting one or more of the following criteria are desired:

  • Established record of scholarship/creative activity
  • Expertise in multilingual learners
  • Experience working with and/or teaching courses to undergraduate elementary grades education candidates
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with public schools
  • Experience with supervising and mentoring preservice elementary grades education teacher candidates in the field
  • Expertise in authentic and standard-based assessments at the elementary school-age level
  • Commitment to working in a community of practice, to a social constructivist perspective of teaching and learning, to the integration of field experiences in professional coursework, and to working with diverse populations

License/Certification Required

  • Eligibility for North Carolina teaching licensure.


Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum in the Reich College of Education is dedicated to developing and implementing transformational educational experiences that help students critically question and deconstruct the complex intersections of environmental, cultural, historical, and political factors that influence and affect teaching and learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include teaching pre-service education courses at the undergraduate level, which may consist of elementary grades methods courses and related education courses.
.
Other responsibilities include but are not limited to,

  • Participating in partnerships and professional development with area schools and teaching at off-campus sites.
  • Maintaining a coherent and productive research program that will impact the education profession.
  • Seeking external funding (e.g., to support research, personnel preparation, and/or outreach) Providing professional service at state and national levels and institutional service at program, department, and college level

Suggested Salary Range Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
ABD Consideration: ABD with reduction in rank and salary (see desc. below)
ABD Description
ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
