WellSky is seeking a Staff Data Engineerto join our EnterpriseData Platform team, which is part of our growing group of Enterprise Engineering organization. You will be part of an empowered team to bring an enterprise view of clients' data to a single pane of glass, allowing them to better observe, report and perform actions to improve the health of their patients!

A day in the life!

You will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Data Engineering:
    • Build and maintain efficient data pipelines for collecting, processing, and storing various data sources.
    • Design and implement robust data ingestion and transformation processes using ETL/ELT tools.
    • Ensure data quality and integrity throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Data Analysis & Mining:
    • Conduct exploratory data analysis to understand data patterns, trends, and anomalies.
    • Develop and apply statistical models for predictive analytics, forecasting, and anomaly detection.
    • Employ machine learning techniques for classification, regression, clustering, and other advanced analytics.
  • Data Reporting & Visualization:
    • Design and create interactive dashboards and reports using BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
    • Communicate data insights effectively through clear visualizations and storytelling.
    • Develop data-driven narratives and recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Business Intelligence:
    • Collaborate with business users to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable insights.
    • Partner with product and engineering teams to integrate data insights into business processes and products.
    • Stay up to date with emerging data technologies and trends.

Do you have what it takes?

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or relevant work experience
  • 8-10 years of experience

Data Engineering:

  • Years of experience in data engineering roles, specifically with building and maintaining data pipelines for processing large datasets.
  • Proficiency with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Cloud Data Fusion, Cloud Composer, Dataflow) for data ingestion and transformation.
  • Demonstrated experience ensuring data quality and integrity, including data validation, cleaning, and monitoring.

Data Analysis & Mining:

  • Strong analytical skills with hands-on experience in exploratory data analysis (EDA) to assess data quality and uncover insights.
  • Experience with statistical modeling and knowledge of predictive analytics methods (e.g., forecasting, anomaly detection).
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning techniques such as classification, regression, and clustering using libraries like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.

Data Reporting & Visualization:

  • Proficiency in BI tools (e.g., Sisense, Tableau, Power BI) to create interactive dashboards and reports.
  • Proven ability to visualize data insights effectively and communicate complex information through storytelling techniques.

Business Intelligence Collaboration:

  • Experience collaborating with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver actionable insights.
  • Ability to partner closely with product and engineering teams to ensure data insights are seamlessly integrated into business workflows.

Healthcare Data Expertise:

  • 2+ years working with healthcare data (e.g., claims data, HL7/FHIR, EHR/EMR data, patient demographic data).
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and experience handling PHI (Protected Health Information) in accordance with data privacy and security standards.

Preferred Experience:

Technical Proficiency:

  • Experience working with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, AWS Redshift) and cloud data tools.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, or R for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and data cataloging solutions (e.g., Data Plex).

Advanced Analytics & Machine Learning:

  • Prior experience deploying machine learning models in a production environment, particularly in healthcare-related use cases (e.g., patient outcome prediction, readmission risk).
  • Understanding of NLP techniques for healthcare data (e.g., text mining from clinical notes).

Data Reporting & BI Visualization in Healthcare Contexts:

  • Experience creating reports and dashboards specifically tailored to healthcare KPIs, including patient outcomes, readmission rates, and operational metrics.
  • Familiarity with healthcare standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) and the ability to work with unstructured healthcare data.

Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Experience mentoring junior data engineers, sharing best practices, and providing guidance on technical challenges.
  • Ability to lead data-related projects and initiatives, ensuring they align with business objectives.

Continuous Learning & Innovation:

  • Demonstrated commitment to staying up to date with emerging data technologies (e.g., advancements in cloud data platforms, analytics tools, and healthcare data standards).
  • Active participation in professional communities or relevant certification (e.g., Certified Data Engineer, Certified Data Scientist).
