Base Pay Range: $17.15 - $26.50 per hour (Depending on experience and job classification)

Scale Wage for State Jobs: $17.15 - $53.00 per hour (as per state scale wage requirements)


Job Description:

Francis O Day Co., Inc. a leading paving and excavation company that operates in Maryland and Virginia, is seeking an experienced Asphalt Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This role involves operating one of our various types of heavy machinery, such as pavers, rollers, and milling machines, for asphalt paving projects. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the completion of both private and state-funded projects.

Requirements:

  • Must have strong verbal communication skills, ability to read and write.
  • Employees must be able to work with and without direct supervision.
  • Complete and abide by all Safety Training and other provided training.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
  • Experience in operating heavy equipment (pavers, rollers, milling machines, etc.) used in asphalt paving projects.



Job Duties:

  • Operate paving machine, shuttle buggy/transfer machine, milling machine, asphalt roller, asphalt screed or sensor operator
  • Understand and inspect the environment around the equipment before operation, to protect people and property.
  • Operate equipment with adherence to common operational practices including efficient digging and safety.
  • Cleaning and performing daily/preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal proficiency level.
  • Follow all safety policies and PPE use.



Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50-75 lbs.
  • The ability to quickly respond appropriately to unexpected events.
  • May require long periods of standing and being subjected to adverse weather conditions.
  • Consistently wear common protective or safety equipment.



Work Environment:

  • Work is performed outdoors.
  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Must be able for Night and Day shifts
