Come join our dynamic, highly skilled CT Surgery inpatient APP team. The cardiothoracic surgery service provides advanced surgical treatments, including coronary artery bypass grafting , aortic and mitral valve replacement, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and heart transplantation. We value individuals who are detail-oriented, compassionate, professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and able to prioritize and adapt to changing situations. Our APPs, together with the CT Surgery Fellows and Physicians, operate at the top of their scope to deliver high-quality, efficient healthcare to our patients.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $105.03 - $124.10 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The cardiothoracic surgery service provides advanced surgical treatments, including coronary artery bypass grafting , aortic and mitral valve replacement, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and heart transplantation.

Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner I

  • Five (5) years of experience in cardiovascular critical care as an RN.
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined.
Nurse Practitioner II
  • Minimum of one (1) year of cardio-thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, cardiology, or critical care ICU NP experience.
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined.

Preferred Qualifications


  • RNFA
  • If NP1, recent experience managing complex cardiac patients with heart failure, heart transplant, and ECMO

License/Certification


  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.

  • Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Current AHA BLS as minimum requirement.
  • Current AHA ACLS as minimum requirement.
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
