As autonomy expands, the embedded software inside our vehicles, humanoids, batteries, and charging systems becomes part of the control path for real-world behavior, making its security foundational rather than optional. The Embedded Security Engineer role exists to design & build the next generation of those protections. You'll work across teams to define requirements, implement controls in real-time firmware & embedded Linux, and ensure the systems that enable connected services & remote diagnostics remain trustworthy as our product suite becomes increasingly software-driven. What You'll Do Design and implement security features in our embedded software systems Contribute to technical requirements, architecture, and interface design documents Design and development of real-time embedded firmware and embedded Linux software that implements security controls for the system Develop and lead execution of test strategies and test plans Agree on product-level requirements/goals with the Product team Threat Model anddesignsecuritycontrols &mitigations with the Product Security and Connected Services team Develop Software Security Architecture for the entire system, including component-level requirements for all computers/controllers in the system Drive execution across contributing components, with help from the Program Management team What You'll Bring Proven record of designing and delivering software security systems for internet-connectedembedded devices Experience incorporating hardware-based security techniques (Hardware Security modules,TrustZone, Secure Boot,etc) into a robust hardware/software system design Sound knowledge of Cryptography fundamentals and Public Key Infrastructure Extensive experience creating, presenting, and refining clear, compelling technical specifications from top-level system architecture documents down to low-level implementation guides and test plans System-level (kernel/bootloader) software development experience Strong communicationskills Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced, collaborative environment Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $160,000 - $330,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
