As a Senior Principal Scientist, you will be trusted to responsible for development of new contact lens material and process, packaging salines, and contact lens care products. This role is in Johns Creek, GA. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Provide technical leadership of development CL and CLC products
  • Propose new concepts to initiate ideation projects
  • Represent formulations team to participate in core team membership
  • Be recognized as world class SME in your area of expertise
  • Develop new material for new contact lens and process based on in-depth understanding in both materials technology and lens production process.
  • Utilizes contact lens formulation and polymer expertise to design and carry-out formulation experiments and characterization to achieve target lens attributes. Lead team in the execution of project plans prepared in cooperation with project team leadership.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of structure-property-process relationship in polymers, specifically the relationship between molecular architecture and morphology and bulk properties. Identifies and executes appropriate testing methodologies to evaluate potential new contact lenses, lens surfaces, package saline and lens care products
  • Develops an external network of research partners and collaborators to complement internal competencies in the above mentioned research areas. Actively monitors patent and scientific literature for significant technical developments relevant to CL and CLC products.

What You'll Bring to Alcon:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school+15 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 7 Years of Relevant Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD w/ 12+ years of experience in the area of ophthalmic or medical device industry is highly preferred
  • Background in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering
  • Able to apply engineering principles to assigned projects is desired (DOE and SPC)
  • Experience with hydrogel and contact lens care are desired
  • Prior small team management experience is preferred
  • Strong mentorship and coaching capabilities
