Pediatrics - Neonatology

Job Description

This position will provide medical care for patients in the NICU in collaboration with or under the supervision of a neonatologist. Help teach our medical students, residents, and nursing staff neonatal resuscitation, performance of skilled procedures, and initial ventilator and other support management when a critically ill infant is admitted to the NICU. The individual in this role will also help develop the standard of nursing care / possible research activities as well as other duties assigned by supervisor.

Conduct comprehensive health history and physical assessment of infants with acute health problems.

Perform admission history and physical while developing, managing, and modifying treatment plans.

Manage fluid statuses and interpret lab values on all infants including extremely low birth weight infants.

Manage ventilator settings including high frequency ventilators of multiple high acuity patients at a time. Interpret blood gases and make clinical decisions based on those interpretations.

Perform multiple procedures including: intubation, thoracentesis, umbilical line placement, lumbar punctures and patient codes.

Attend high risk deliveries and perform newborn resuscitation.

Serve as a daily resource to Resident Physicians and cover the NICU 24/7 including overnight, weekends and holidays and assist with protocol development and implementation.

Shift

3 - 12 hour shifts - schedule will vary

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - Neonatal Nurse Practitioner:

A Master's degree in Nursing is required.
A current RN license from the State of Missouri is required.
A current ARNP license from the State of Missouri is required.
Two years experience in neonatology is required.
National certification as NNP (national exam) is required.
Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications - Physician Assistant:

Physicians Assistant (PA) licensure by the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner:

Level III NICU nursery experience is desirable.

Preferred Qualifications- Physician Assistant:

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department. Certified Physician Assistant (PA) certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $90,251 - $115,000 Annually
Grade: PAT 012
