Position Overview


Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education, within the College of Education and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University seeks an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the Edward B. Fort Distinguished Professor of Leadership Studies. The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching graduate level courses, conducting research, student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities and all other activities required for tenure.

The position is a 9-month tenure track appointment, with the opportunity for academic rank of advanced Associate or Full Professor level.
The Distinguished Professor will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty across the college, engage with the N.C. A&T Laboratory School, Aggie Academy, and contribute to the Center of Excellence for Educational Equity and Policy Research. Lastly, the Distinguished Professor will actively teach and advise students, produce scholarly publications, procure extramural funding, mentor faculty, engage with community partners and stakeholders, and exemplify the initiative, integrity, and service befitting the honored recognition associated with this endowed appointment. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, participating in programmatic development of leadership initiatives, fundraising, and service to the department, college, and university. The position is a 9-month tenure track appointment, with the opportunity for academic rank of advanced Associate or Full Professor level.

A&T legacy as a historically Black university ( HBCU) dedicated to exemplary teaching, scholarship and effective public service, the College of Education offer degrees at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels. This mission is reflected in the College of Education conceptual framework
The College of Education comprises three departments: the Department of Counseling, the Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education, and the Department of Educator Preparation. The Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education offers a variety of master and doctoral level academic programs: Master of Science in Adult Education, Master of School Administration, School Administration Add-on Licensure, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership Studies. The department prepares students to be transformative scholar-practitioners who use equity, access, and advocacy in their practices as adult education professionals and leaders. The Ph.D. in Leadership Studies offers three cognates: (1) Leadership in Education - Higher Education; (2) Organizational Leadership; and (3) Health Services Leadership.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet SACSCOC minimum requirements of a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (or appropriate terminal degree) in leadership studies, policy, or closely related discipline from an accredited university.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
(1) Demonstrated impact as a scholar-leader with a focus on K-20 educational contexts.
(2) Demonstrated experience providing high quality instruction to graduate candidates.
(3) Demonstrated experience in using adult learning strategies for teaching via different formats (e.g., Face-to-face, Hybrid, Online), and ability to engage diverse populations.
(4) Evidence of scholarly productivity including but not limited to presentations at academic meetings and conferences, manuscript publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, invited podcasts, or webinars.
(5) Evidence of successful grant writing to support scholarly engagement and/or advance programmatic goals.
(6) Evidence of engaged service relevant to the K-20 educational leadership community.
(7) Evidence of partnerships or the ability to build partnerships with local, state, and national leadership organizations and other stakeholders.
