JOB SUMMARY SEIU LOCAL 20 ONLY

The primary focus of the Attending Physician IX (Nocturnist-Hospitalist) is providing direct comprehensive care to inpatients of Cook County Health (CCH) hospitals during the night shift. Responsibilities include rotating on an attending directed non-teaching services and Provident Hospital (PH) and John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital (JSH), managing patients in the PH intensive care unit (ICU) including ventilator management and performing bedside procedures, consulting, and collaborating with Intensivist. While on teaching services, supervises house staff, and teaches medical students. Participates in patient experience and quality improvement projects. Participates in CCH approved projects and/or committees.

Typical Duties



  • * Serves as an attending physician nocturnist hospitalist providing direct care on a non-teaching inpatient service at PH.
  • * Evaluates and provides care for patients on the general medicine wards.
  • * Evaluates and provides care for patient in the PH ICU including ventilator management and bedside procedures (intubation, central venous line placement, arterial line placement, paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, etc.).
  • * Serves as an attending physician nocturnist hospitalist providing care on a non-teaching and teaching service at JSH.
  • * Collaborates with attending physicians to co-manage patients admitted to medical or surgical services
  • * Supervises the house staff on inpatient medical services
  • * Participates in inpatient quality improvement processes, projects, or duties as assigned by the Division Chair

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • * Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) from an accredited college or university
  • * Licensed as a physician in the State of Illinois OR must obtain license prior to start date
  • * Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine OR Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and must obtain Board Certification with two (2) years of starting employment
  • * Valid Illinois Controlled Substance License OR must obtain license prior to starting employment
  • * Valid licensure with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration or must obtain license prior to starting employment
  • * Experience with ventilator management, intubation, performance of bedside procedures (central venous line placement, arterial line placement, paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture)



Preferred Qualifications



  • * One (1) year of experience working as a nocturnist hospitalist
  • * One (1) year of experience working as an intensivist



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics



  • * Knowledge of hospitalist physician programs and services
  • * Knowledge of inpatient quality improvements processes and the ability to implement them
  • * Strong supervisory and leadership skills necessary to oversee house staff and medical students
  • * Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
  • * Excellent program development, management, and leadership skills
  • * Strong customer service and empathy skills
  • * Demonstrate good phone and email etiquette skills with strong response times
  • * Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict management/resolution skills
  • * Ability to treat acutely ill patients in an inpatient setting
  • * Ability to instruct curriculum to include clinical epidemiology, history taking and physical diagnosis
  • * Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse patient and employee population
