APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State's Department of Computer Science and Engineering is seeking native or fluent ASL signers for participating in a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project on Sign Language Recognition (SLR) and Translation, with a primary focus on ASL. The technology would use wearable sensor devices such as smart rings, smartwatches, and sensor-embedded earphones for tracking hand, body, and facial motion for ASL recognition. The technology will rely on sensor fusion, machine learning, and natural language processing for performing the translation. Bidirectional communication between an ASL signer and a non-ASL speaker would be integrated into the system. The intern would work with Ph.D. students and faculty at Penn State and Gallaudet to bring their domain expertise in ASL in developing highly accurate technology for ASL ecognition and translation.
