JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Metals, Ceramics, and Coatings Processing Department of the Materials Science Division within the Materials and Manufacturing Office at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is looking for an Engineering Technologist to support mechanical component testing and equipment integration into existing laboratories.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

Responsibilities include:

  • The design of universal robotic attachments for new and existing processes
  • The design of components and development of drawings for the fabrication of test equipment for cold spray systems
  • Collaborate with project leadership and R&D engineering staff to provide expert engineering assistance for research projects and proposals
  • Provide training, direction and guidance on various characterization techniques and testing procedures to students and staff. Coordinate and schedule technical training on new equipment.
  • Utilize computer aided design software to develop electrical, mechanical and/or software products

Typically requirements include a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering discipline; 2+ years of related experience.

Required skills and experience include:

  • Hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of different mechanical test processes
  • Ability to develop and execute test plans for tensile, fatigue, wear, and corrosion testing
  • Data acquisition and analysis
  • Metallurgical, failure, and statistical analysis
  • Robotics
  • Machining
  • Mechanical design
  • Materials characterization

Preferred skills and experience include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology or a related field
  • An active security clearance
  • Machining
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Manufacturing Automation
  • Maintenance of manufacturing equipment
  • CNC machining
  • Simens NX

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
