JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are searching for an Engineering Project Manager to join our Mechanical and Electrical Design Department (MEDD) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC).

The successful candidate will facilitate and provide daily oversight of various engineering projects. This includes collaborating with investigators, technical staff, and immediate teammates to ensure the prompt, accurate, and compliant execution of project deliverables.

You will:

  • Utilize project management strategies for implementing project requirements; collaborate with investigators to develop, execute, and update the project plan; monitor and facilitate technical project execution, milestones, and deliverables

  • Manage stakeholder project and product needs; coordinate with investigators to manage and adhere to regulatory and sponsor requirements

  • Facilitate task/project budgets, work breakdowns, rough order estimates, task prioritization, and integration plans with investigators and program managers; coordinate with investigators to create project baseline

  • Leverage learned knowledge and CM/PLM software to institutionalize best practices aligning MEDD and investigator research requirements, attend trainings / tradeshows to stay current; recommend new solutions

  • Lead Technical Data Packet (TDP) preparation and status reporting as requested; intake, monitor, and execute program-level specific technical and compliance requirements

  • Supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management; train team members and customers on CM requirements and best practices; proliferate best practices to team via coaching, training, and procedures; facilitate metrics for (MEDD) team and individual performance

  • Entertain ad hoc out of box requests for unique CM/PLM services such as outside correspondence and/or DoD-specific data exchange tools / methods; facilitate new, complex, or atypical scenarios, including legacy guidance

  • Promote design for manufacturing; audit of reviewers / checkers; provide day to day support as needed to support time critical needs; act as the final reviewer of release workflow

This position will be filled at the Supervisor level.Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required skills/experience areas include:

  • Understanding of Industry or US Government practices for configuration management

  • Knowledge of Engineering Drawing Practices in accordance with the ASME Y14 series of standards

  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) practices in accordance with ASME Y14.5

  • Success in an office environment, where various forms of communication and organizational skills were crucial to be effective

  • Previous success with collaborations in a multi-disciplinary, team-oriented culture

Preferred skills/experience areas include:

  • Active Secret level government security clearance

  • Knowledge of PDM system (Siemens Teamcenter preferred) and Mechanical CAD design software (Siemens NX preferred) and Electrical CAD Design Software (Altium preferred)

  • Understanding of machining practices (both additive and subtractive preferred)

  • Microsoft Office and Adobe products

Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$86,300.00 - $129,500.00
