Camp Director - Before and After School Camp Programs (FALL 2024)

Job Summary

To lead, direct, coordinate, facilitate, and supervise a quality Before and Afterschool Camp, which includes the following developmentally appropriate activities that engage children ages 3-12 in various Recreational, Educational, and Cultural programs. This position is responsible for all administrative functions of operating a licensed childcare program and the supervision of Camp staff.

    Position Summary

    • Manage the daily operation of a childcare camp program and ensure compliance with the Department of Children and Families, YoungStar, and MKE Recreation Department.
    • Plan, coordinate and/or facilitate engaging enrichment programs daily.
    • Recruit, orientate, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate camp staff performance as required.
    • Work in collaboration with the principal and day school staff in recruiting and retaining students for all Camp program activities.
    • Communicate and meet regularly with, the School Principal, Recreation Supervisor, and day school staff to discuss Camp successes, collaborations, and areas of improvement.
    • Complete, collect, and maintain all written paperwork, including billing and fee collection, payroll (TCP and Timesheets), attendance, student files, staff files, accident/incident reports, supply requisitions, program plans, budgets, self-assessments, action/improvement plans and any other written documents regarding the camp program.
    • Complete annual mid-year reviews to discuss Camp performance with Principals and assigned Recreation Supervisor. Complete the end-of-year review process as required as well.
    • Ensure compliance with DCF Health and Safety Checklist - Public School Operated Programs and DCF 251 requirements.
    • Attend School Learning Team meetings and/or School Governance Council meetings, monthly directors' meetings, required trainings, in-services, and professional development to ensure ongoing communication with the day school, and Recreation Camp Staff.
    • Act as a liaison between Before & Afterschool Camp staff and school personnel (i.e., engineer, food service staff, etc.).
    • Initiate parental contact when communicating pertinent camp information and/or emergencies.
    • Fill in as necessary to maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios.
    • Ensure all meals and snacks are provided as scheduled. Procure lunches from kitchen staff if lunches are needed for field trips.
    • Inform Recreation Supervisors of all emergency medical and incidents that involve police contact immediately and complete the Accident/Incident Report within the required timeframe.
    • Regularly evaluate the camp program for quality and compliance.
    • Ensure a safe and constructive educational and recreational environment for children enrolled in the program.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor, Manager, or Coordinator.
    Job Requirements

    Qualifications

    • 18 years of age or older.
    • HS Diploma or GED
    • At least one year experience supervising staff and working with children PREFERRED.
    • Enjoy working with children.

    Required orientation within five days of hire:

    • Abusive Head Trauma video (successfully completed)
    • Child Maltreatment Training Video (successfully completed and renewed every two years)
    • Mandated Reporter Training (successfully completed and renewed every two years)
    • DPI Medication Training Video (successfully completed, demonstrates skill every year, and renewed every four years)
    • A Registry Profile linked to the assigned Camp Program

    Required Trainings within 120 days / four months of hire:

    • Current CPR/AED certification (successfully completed and renewed CPR/AED certification
    • Abusive Head Trauma In-person Class (successfully completed)

    Required trainings within 270 days/ nine months of hire: (Your Registry profile will determine if you need the following trainings.)

    • Introduction to the Child Care Profession (successfully completed within 270 days of assuming the position)
    • Skills and Strategies for the Child Care Teacher (successfully completed within 270 days of assuming the position)
    • One Course in the WI Child Care Administration Credential (successfully completed within 270 days of assuming the position)

    • Ability to learn and operate new financial and attendance computer program software.
    • Ability to problem-solve.
    • Ability to maintain and secure confidential information.
    • Ability to carry out effective behavior management practices.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with children, staff, and parents.
    • Possess qualities of patience, flexibility, understanding, acceptance, and caring.
    • Ability to complete administrative paperwork as assigned.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Other duties as assigned.
