Job Description:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study or equivalent years of related work experience required, preferably in a 3rd party testing company or ISA-PS company.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum six years of related work experience required, preferably in a 3rd party testing company or ISA-PS company.

ATTENDANCE:

  • Regular attendance required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • High level of knowledge towards quality assurance testing techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of test methods and other product performance testing requirements for whole shoes, shoe components, upper materials and sole materials
  • Understanding of and ability to interpret Federal Agency Regulations, including but not limited to CFR's, FTC, CPSC / CPSIA, AATCC / ASTM / SATRA standard methods
  • Ability to read and write, basic mathematical and standard & metric measurement skills and comprehends instructions
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and correctly
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AS 400 and e-mail software
  • Ability to communicate at all levels internally and external vendors
  • Background of non-textile merchandise and the understanding of footwear materials, components, construction and basic manufacturing methods and techniques
  • Understanding of Factory Production / Mfg. Processing of footwear including, but not limited to, casual, running, athletic, injection & vulcanized shoes, safety work and environment shoes.
  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties
  • Communication - effective listening, speaking, and writing
  • Ability to work flexible hours such as evening, weekends, and holidays as necessary

SOME DUTIES:

  • Utilize and assist in the developing of product performance and testing functions for Academy's private label product.
  • Ensures product performance testing is conducted within established timelines following AATCC, ASTM, SATRA and approved internal testing methods.
  • Maintains an acceptable turn a around time as per department goals.
  • Assist with writing, publishes and maintains Product Performance Standards and Specifications for current and new private label products.
  • Serves as key contact for all private label product performance, product testing related issues and requests pertaining to imported and/or private brand merchandise.
  • Works with Product Development/Global Sourcing teams to reach final agreement on testing to be conducted seasonally.
  • Assist with communication of product performance test data and results to other associates such as buyers, global sourcing, and outside vendors.
  • Provides suggestions towards swift resolution with regard to quality issues by working closely with the buying and global sourcing teams, vendors, and QA management.
  • Conducts in-house and 3rd party testing labs' product performance testing for private label products. Follows up with in-house and 3rd party regarding test result status. Communicates status to Global Sourcing.
  • Conducts testing of designated national brand merchandise to facilitate competitive analysis of private label merchandise.
  • Documents Product Performance Test results from internal and 3rd party testing companies.
  • Has frequent e-mail and verbal communication with QA Testing Manager or Director on all testing, procedural and technical issues.
  • Communicates and works with Compliance Department to ensure Product Safety Standards are included in the Product Performance Specifications.
  • Maintains testing database, reports, filing, standards and procedures.
  • Assist with calibration testing of equipment as needed. Maintains maintenance logs.
  • Assist with the training of new hire lab technicians. Maintains records of training of deemed test methods and equipment.
  • Participates in seminars and educational training to others in regards to QA initiatives.
  • Conducts Tours as needed to visitors, including but not limited to, store managers, new associates.
  • Ensures the laboratory and equipment is maintained and kept in testing standard condition. Maintains weekly maintenance of the pool.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by adhering to sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Limited domestic & international travel.
  • Required to learn company policies, procedures and safety rules.
