At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Blue Origin Space Vehicle Refurbishment Operations team, where our focus is to support the design, development, manufacturing, and RAMS program of the New Glenn Space Launch System. Built for multiple mission profiles, our family of space vehicles is lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, technicians, and specialisits, you will develop and execute a program plan to support space vehicles' operational program in the areas of Reliability, Maintainability, and System Safety. In the early phases of a program, you will focus on assessing functional hazards, developing and allocating system safety, reliability/availability, and maintainability requirements, and defining the scope vital to the return to service of the NG Launch Vehicle. In later phases of development, you will manage safety and reliability validation and verification activities, assess the safety and reliability impacts of engineering changes and nonconformance, and ensure that design-specific safety and reliability mitigations are implemented effectively. In this role, you have the opportunity to continue to engage with the product team well into the Launch Vehicle qualification, production, and system certification and operational phases of the program.

We are seeing a self-motivated and highly organized individual who can work with minimal guidance and coordinate teams in the successful execution of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and System Safety (RAMS) activities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain MBSE models and system architectures of space launch system
  • Facilitate and perform system safety and reliability analyses, identify hazards, failure causes, and mitigations, and provide a detailed record of the safety risk approach.
  • Balance operational efficiency and Maintenance Program costs with safety and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and ensure they are accurately captured in the models.
  • Perform scoping analyses to determine the value of applying MBSE and select appropriate frameworks and approaches for new projects using tools such as Maintenance Aware Design Ecosystem (MADe).
  • Create and manage system requirements, ensuring traceability and alignment with project goals.
  • Conduct model-based analysis to support design decisions and trade-offs.
  • Develop model profiles, tool plug-ins, architecture frameworks, and model queries.
  • Support verification and validation activities by ensuring models accurately represent system behavior and performance.
  • Perform engineering drawing review and applicability to new MBSE Project

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of building trust and effective working relationships that improve team performance, deliver results and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • 6+ years of engineering experience in the aerospace industry with 4+ years of system safety, reliability, or RAMS engineering experience in space launch vehicles
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices throughout the product lifecycle
  • Experience in design, development, integration, or testing - preferably with aerospace hardware or sophisticated technical systems
  • Experience performing system safety and reliability analyses, such as Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs)
  • Experience with Weibull analysis and parameter estimation, stress-strength interference analyses, probability distribution estimation, reliability growth modeling, and probabilistic risk analysis
  • Working understanding of configuration management principles and practices
