Job Summary

The Hospital and Clinical Operations Supervisor is recognized as an administrative leader and clinical resource. The incumbent provides operational oversight throughout the Medical Center. In collaboration with leadership teams, the HCOS has the authority to act on behalf of Unit Directors, Patient Care Directors and Hospital Management. On a shift to shift basis, the HCOS acts independently to problem solve and makes timely decisions to positively impact patient care, and ensures effective communication and collaboration amongst departments and multidisciplinary teams. Through operational oversight, the position seeks to continually improve patient care delivery and care coordination.

Under the leadership of the Central Resource Group Unit Director, the Hospital and Clinical Operations Supervisor is responsible for providing operational and administrative oversight throughout the Medical Center. Incumbent ensures quality of patient care delivery through oversight in support of clinical operations, clinical resource, administrative management and follow-up of patient related issues. Based on operational needs, incumbent can be assigned as Hospital Supervisor for Mission Bay or Mount Zion.

Required Qualifications


  • A minimum of three years of full-time acute or critical care direct care clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital/medical center
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in the charge nurse role and/or through mentoring/staff development or committee work
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.
  • In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations and internal policies.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.
  • Ability to flex schedule up to 100% for meetings, projects or committee work.
  • Demonstrates leadership and management skills
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification

Preferred Qualifications


  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and performance, and to provide input to decision-making on human resources matters.
  • Recent experience in an academic medical center
  • Critical Care experience
  • Management experience
  • Hospital Supervisor or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.
  • Master's Degree

License/Certification


  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association CPR and ACLS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
