Special Instructions to Applicants
The Scientists Engaged in Education Research ( SEER) Center at the University of Georgia is seeking three Postdoctoral Fellows to join a two-year, cohort-based Biology Education Research Postdoctoral Fellowship program, funded by the National Science Foundation. Each of the postdocs in the cohort will be co-mentored by experts in biology education and relevant social science fields (e.g., cognitive psychology, educational psychology, higher education, measurement). Each Fellow will choose a cross-disciplinary research project to conduct (see the SEER Center site for project options: https://seercenter.uga.edu/project-options/) and be mentored in developing their own independent research project.
For all Fellows, research training will be complemented by cohort-based and individualized professional development, including options to gain teaching and mentoring experience, complete various certifications, interact with a national group of experts, write papers and proposals, network at national/international meetings, explore career options, and search and apply for jobs. Each postdoc will have opportunities to interact with a vibrant group of faculty interested in undergraduate and graduate education in STEM disciplines as well as other postdoctoral associates, graduate and undergraduate researchers, and professional staff as part of the Biology Education Research Group ( BERG) and Scientists Engaged in Education Research ( SEER) Center at University of Georgia.
This is a grant funded position. While the continuation of funding and employment is anticipated, it is not guaranteed. The funder requires work authorization as a pre-requisite for employment and all applicants must have earned a Ph.D. within the 24 months before beginning the fellowship.
These positions are full-time with a start date as early as August 2024 and no later than January 2025. Candidates should electronically submit:
1. A 1-2 page cover letter describing their experiences and personal characteristics that they believe have prepared them to be a Fellow and how they can contribute to and enrich the cohort and the research community;
2. A 1-page interest statement in which the applicant indicates which research project interests them (applicants should choose one project from the SEER Center site to apply to: https://seercenter.uga.edu/project-options/) and how working on that project would help them achieve their professional goals;
3. A curriculum vitae; and
4. Contact information for two professional references.
**Review of applications are ongoing and will continue until the positions are filled.
