Position Summary:
The Makerspace Education Manager arranges and manages all aspects of educational and community operations run
out of the NJIT Makerspace. This task includes the development and
implementation of federal and state sponsored projects; skills and safety
training for all users of the Makerspace (including curriculum and experiment
development); and the planning and logistics for workshops, short courses and
events hosted within the Makerspace.

The Makerspace Education Manager works with NJIT and Makerspace administration to
prepare and submit grant requests seeking sponsorship for programs that use
the Makerspace facilities. S/he manages and coordinates implementation of
approved projects. This task includes proposal and budget development,
curricular development and maintenance, the recruiting of participants for
program implementation, and support of the hiring and management of
instructional and support personnel.

The Makerspace Education Manager develops and coordinates training materials and
training sessions. These are offered by the NJIT Makerspace and delivered via
learning management platforms, websites, and in-person meetings. This task
includes the development, administration, and maintenance of training
materials, scheduling of training sessions, and assignment of personnel to
implement the training. Training sessions are developed for and delivered to
NJIT students and faculty, members of the workforce (workforce development),
non-NJIT-affiliated local community members, and participants from K-12
schools and other universities.

The Makerspace Education Manager is the main point of contact for educational events
held within Makerspace and coordinates all related facility and event-related
logistics.

The Makerspace Education Manager will participate in, and help author/co-author,
academic research reports and manuscripts related to the management,
maintenance, and operation of academic making facilities, education, and
programs.

When necessary, the coordinator will participate in prototyping and
fabrication work performed at the Makerspace.

Essential Functions:
Management:
- Initiate and develop technical
proposals and budgets for consideration by federally and state sponsored
agencies and by corporations - to be implemented in the NJIT Makerspace.
- Coordinate and schedule all
operations needed to successfully operate grant-funded activities.
- Maintain and develop curriculum for
makerspace training.
- Coordinate makerspace activities
for non-NJIT users (adult training, workforce training, participation from
other universities and schools)

Academic:
- Develop and facilitate the offering
of training materials in conjunction with faculty, staff, and students.
- Collect experimental and
administrative data and help with its processing and analysis; assist in the
development of technical reports and technical manuscripts.

Engineering:
- Coordinate policy, training, and
maintenance to ensure the facility, equipment, and working conditions are
maintained within OSHA and other relevant regulatory standards.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

A baccalaureate degree
in an engineering field.
- 3-5 years of
progressive experience program implementation, curricular development,
training.
- Experience in teaching positions or teaching roles.
- Experience in technical
writing, preparing technical reports and (preferred) participating in
preparation of manuscripts for peer review.
- The ability to
communicate-with and train individuals of varied educational backgrounds,
origins, and experiences.
- At the university's discretion, the education
and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can
demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination
of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success
in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master of Science degree in engineering field.
- Good laboratory and
hands-on abilities in the environment of technical labs or manufacturing
facilities.
- Strong writing and oral
presentation skills.
