What to Expect
Tesla's Houston solar manufacturing plant is currently in the design phase, and the facilities infrastructure decisions made now will shape how reliably and efficiently it runs for years to come, supporting high-volume ingot, wafer, and cell production. As the senior facilities leader for the site, you will join at a pivotal moment: working directly with Design to influence critical infrastructure decisions before they're finalized, then carrying that ownership through to sustaining operations as the plant comes online and ramps. You will oversee Facilities Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Budgeting, setting the strategy, operating model, and organization needed to keep plant utilities and process-support systems safe, reliable, and scalable from day one. You will lead through your leadership team and partner closely with Manufacturing, EHS, Design, and site leadership. This role requires an on-site presence.
What You'll Do
- Shape the facilities strategy and operating model for the solar factory while the plant is still in design, including utilities, gas and chemical systems, HVAC, exhaust, electrical infrastructure, and fire and life safety
- Lead the facilities leadership team across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Facilities Finance, Grounds, and Recycling, partnering with them to set direction and drive results
- Influence facility and infrastructure design decisions before they're finalized, aligning capacity, reliability, and capital plans with manufacturing ramp, site leadership, and long-term operability
- Sponsor major upgrades, vendor strategy, and capital programs for UPW, wastewater treatment, chillers, cooling towers, compressed dry air, bulk gas, chemical distribution, and related systems
- Establish the safety and compliance posture for facilities in partnership with EHS, including hazardous energy control and hazardous production materials
- Build the facilities organization from the ground up, including leadership bench, structure, and workforce plans, as the plant moves from design into operations
- Represent facilities performance, risk, and resource needs to executive leadership
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience in facilities operations, facilities engineering, or plant utilities, including 3+ years leading a leadership team
- Experience in high-tech manufacturing environments, such as solar, semiconductor, or pharmaceutical industries
- Experience influencing facility design and construction decisions before and during buildout, not just operating existing infrastructure, ideally including standing up a new plant or major expansion
- Proven ability to set strategy for plant utilities, bulk gas and chemical systems, HVAC, and maintenance organizations
- Demonstrated experience owning operating budgets and capital portfolios
- Working knowledge of manufacturing safety practices, process safety, and EHS requirements, including NFPA, ASME, and OSHA standards
- Ability to work on-site in manufacturing and construction areas, including exposure to hazardous materials and required use of PPE
