The Flight Simulation Engineer provides engineering expertise, leadership, and technical support to maintain the performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance of Embry-Riddle's Flight Simulation and Training Device (FSTD), Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD), Immersive Training Device (ITD), and Extended Reality (XR) training and research fleet located at the Daytona Beach Campus. The position plays a critical role in ensuring high-fidelity simulation environments that support pilot training, academic instruction, and research initiatives. Qualified candidates must have documented experience supporting Level D Full Flight Simulators with strong emphasis on legacy Flight Safety International (FSI) systems equipped with hydraulic control loading and motion. The Flight Simulation Engineer oversees the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of flight simulation systems and associated network infrastructure. This includes diagnosing hardware, software, avionics, visual, motion, and networking issues; performing repairs and modifications; implementing software updates; and ensuring simulator compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements and university operational standards. The engineer also supports the Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) network and contributes to simulator acquisition, relocation, and integration projects. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Flight Simulation Engineer provides mentoring, training, tasking, and technical guidance to full-time, part-time, and student technical staff. The position assists with workforce development, recruitment, scheduling, performance support, and knowledge transfer to ensure a highly skilled simulation support team. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and collaborative problem-solving skills while working with faculty, flight instructors, students, regulatory agencies, vendors, and university stakeholders. The Flight Simulation Engineer also contributes to Embry-Riddle's FAA-approved Simulator Quality Management System (S-QMS), supports revision control of simulator software and scenery databases, manages network infrastructure improvements, evaluates emerging simulation technologies, and develops tools and utilities that enhance fleet performance, reliability, and operational effectiveness. The position requires a commitment to safety, innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement in support of the university's flight training mission.
