What You Will Do

Payroll Operations

• Manage weekly payroll processing and ensure payroll deadlines are met.
• Review payroll registers, audit reports, and exception reports for accuracy.
• Oversee processing of wages, overtime, deductions, garnishments, taxes, and direct deposits.

Compliance & Audits

• Ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
• Partner with payroll vendors on tax-related matters.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing payroll records and reports.
• Maintain payroll documentation in accordance with retention policies.

Leadership & Staff Management

• Supervise, train, and mentor payroll staff.
• Assign and monitor workloads to ensure operational coverage.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and development support.
• Promote a collaborative and professional work environment.

Payroll Systems & Reporting

• Maintain payroll system integrity and support system upgrades or implementations.
• Collaborate with internal departments and vendors on payroll system enhancements.
• Generate and analyze payroll reports for management, HR, Finance, and audits.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiency.
• Experience with Kronos UKG Ready preferred.

Employee & Department Support

• Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve payroll discrepancies.
• Provide guidance on payroll policies, deductions, and timekeeping.
• Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and reconciliations.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience

• 7+ years of payroll experience required.
• 5+ years of payroll supervisory or management experience preferred.
• High-volume payroll experience is highly preferred.
• Experience with payroll systems such as Kronos-UKG Ready, Workday, Paypro, or similar platforms.

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of payroll laws, taxes, and wage and hour regulations.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
• Ability to manage confidential information and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Spanish-speaking ability is a plus.
• Experience supporting union and multi-state payroll environments.

Working Conditions

• Hybrid work environment with a minimum of three onsite days per week.
• Ability to work extended hours during payroll processing, audits, and year-end periods.
