Under the supervision of Care Coordination and the Peer Recovery Coach Supervisor, the Peer Recovery Coach (PRC) provides direct support to patients with substance use disorders. The PRC uses lived recovery experience to serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator, helping patients reduce relapse risk and build long-term recovery. This role works as part of the interdisciplinary SUDs team, using SBIRT and motivational interviewing to engage patients, develop recovery plans, and connect them to treatment and community support services. The PRC also provides follow-up support after discharge to encourage continued engagement in care.

• Provide peer support to patients during hospitalization and after discharge, as appropriate
• Engage patients in recovery planning and treatment linkage
• Use SBIRT, motivational interviewing, and brief intervention techniques
• Assist with referrals to treatment, community resources, transportation, and appointment coordination
• Conduct follow-up calls to support engagement and verify appointment attendance
• Support patients and families with understanding available community services
• Collaborate with ED staff, social work, nursing, and other team members
• Participate in huddles, staff meetings, and ongoing training
• Complete required documentation and reports
• Serve as a resource for clinical team members on recovery support

Education: High school diploma or GED required

Experience:

• 2-3 years in recovery
• At least 2 years of professional experience in a substance use disorder, behavioral health, peer support, community outreach, or certified peer specialist role

Knowledge and Skills:

• Lived experience with recovery from substance use disorder
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships
• Familiarity with recovery planning, SBIRT, and motivational interviewing
• Ability to work collaboratively in a hospital setting

Certification/Licensure:

• CCAR training required
• Maryland state certification must be obtained within 6-12 months of hire; reimbursement provided after certification is completed

Salary Range: Minimum 22.33/hour - Maximum 36.86/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
