ROLE SUMMARY: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Principal Revenue Accountant to join our Finance organization and report directly to the Director of Revenue Accounting. This role will play a key part in managing and strengthening the company's revenue accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with applicable accounting standards, and effective controls over revenue-related activities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, experience with revenue recognition, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across Finance, Sales, Legal, Operations, and other business functions. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Own and execute revenue accounting activities, including revenue recognition, contract review, deferred revenue, accrued revenue, and related reconciliations. Analyze customer contracts and transactions to determine appropriate revenue recognition under ASC 606 and applicable accounting policies. Prepare and review monthly and quarterly revenue accounting close activities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established deadlines. Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve unusual or complex variances. Prepare revenue-related journal entries, supporting schedules, account reconciliations, and management reporting. Partner with Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, FP&A, Billing, and other cross-functional teams to evaluate non-standard contracts and transaction structures. Assist with the development, documentation, and maintenance of revenue accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, analyses, and supporting documentation. Identify opportunities to improve revenue processes, systems, reporting, and controls through automation and standardization. Analyze revenue trends and accounting data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for process improvement. Support the implementation and enhancement of accounting systems and revenue-related tools. Assist with technical accounting research and implementation of new accounting standards or company policies. Contribute to the preparation of financial statements and related SEC disclosures as needed. Support special projects and other accounting initiatives as directed by the Director of Revenue Accounting. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in revenue accounting. Strong understanding and practical application of ASC 606 / revenue recognition principles. Experience with month-end and quarter-end close processes. Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets. AI or excel automation is a plus. Experience with ERP and/or revenue management systems; experience with system implementations or process automation is a plus. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: CPA or progress toward CPA preferred. Experience in a high-growth manufacturing and/or service company. Experience with complex or non-standard customer contracts. Experience with revenue automation or revenue recognition software. Experience improving accounting processes through automation, data analytics, or system enhancements. Public accounting experience, particularly with a Big Four or large national accounting firm, is a plus. Experience with indirect taxes (VAT) is a plus. EXPECTATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting matters to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders. Travel: 0-25% Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across functions. Strong technical accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
