Manufacturing Engineer, NPI

Vacuum Solution, a division of MKS Instruments, is looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual with strong leadership skills to join our team as a Manufacturing Engineer in New Product Development.

In this role, you will collaborate with the Product Development Engineering team to bridge the gap between product design and manufacturing, focusing on new product introductions (NPI). You will help develop systems to allow rapidly prototyped parts to be safely used in early customer builds.

Your responsibilities will include analyzing requirements, developing manufacturing processes, and ensuring smooth transitions to production. You will also play a key role in continuous improvement by identifying and implementing solutions for process optimization and often act as a technical leader for platform integration.

Additionally, you will work with the Operations team and other Manufacturing Engineers to establish manufacturing processes across various production areas.

You Will Make an Impact By:

• Facilitate in creating seamless transitions of new products into a high-mix production environment.
• Engage in early design concepts with a focus on design for excellence.
• Assist in structuring bills of materials to ensure manufacturing scalability.
• Develop work instructions and routings within an MES system.
• Identify and track critical process parameters to create a robust dataset for yield and process improvements.
• Plan, prepare, train, and execute the transfer to manufacturing.
• Identify automation opportunities and assist with their implementation.
• Design assembly lines to meet takt times and balance production lines.
• Execute projects aimed at continuous improvement and development.

Skills You Bring:

• BS/MS in Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical/Software engineering
• 2+ years of experience in a mixed production environment.
• Knowledge of and experience with:
  • Structured problem-solving tools and techniques
  • SPC tools and process control implementation
  • Lean manufacturing methodologies
• Experience in leading Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis and DFX type activities

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with a Machine Shop environment a plus.
• Familiarity with Welding, particularly TiG or Laser Welding is a plus.
• Knowledge of a programming language, such as Python, JavaScript, Labview, or SQL is a plus
• Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma Green belt is a plus
• 1 year experience with demonstrated expertise troubleshooting and solving production problems with minimal supervision.
• Understanding of measurement equipment
• Knowledge of SolidWorks or other parametric solid modeler preferred
• Knowledge of PowerBI, Minitab preferred
• Knowledge of MES and product lifecycle management systems
• Understanding of ERP, Oracle Preferred

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

• Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time
• Regularly requires good manual dexterity and coordination
• Occasionally moves/positions objects up to 20 lbs.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position for 40% of the time
• Regularly requires manual dexterity and coordination of objects below, at and above shoulder level
