Laboratory Assistant I

Summary

Performs clerical and/or technical duties of low to moderate complexity, in support of laboratory operations. Microbiology duties include (but not limited to): ODPCR testing, Molecular sample receiving, Micro reagents and supplies.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Accurately prepares specimens for distribution and analysis according to laboratory policies and procedures including research protocols.
• Ensures patients are correctly identified through the hospital registration system, account numbers are current and correct tests are ordered; checks requisitions for data entry errors and resolves questionable orders.
• Performs assigned laboratory support functions in compliance with regulatory agencies, quality indicators, and infection control practices according to laboratory procedures.
• Responds to customer needs, including prompt attention to pneumatic tubes, customer and courier deliveries, phone calls and electronic communications.
• Records temperatures, provides proper notifications when values are out-of-range and performs and documents appropriate follow-up actions. Operates and maintains equipment and documents maintenance performed.
• Assists with inventory management, including ordering of supplies, reagent preparation, labeling, use and disposal.
• Performs anatomic pathology support tasks, such as slide filing/retrieval, tissue disposal, and post mortem assistance as assigned.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $18.27 to $27.40
