National Tax Office Quality Technical Director

CLA is growing and seeking to hire a Technical Director to join our National Tax Office Quality team. The Technical Director contributes at the highest level in their industry and excels at client advisory, service advocacy, relationship development, and leadership. This role is highly specialized and focuses on technical quality, compliance, and methodology.

How you'll create opportunities in this Technical Director role:

• Consult with engagement teams on high-risk tax engagements and client-specific quality matters, developing practical solutions, mitigating firm risk, and identifying and addressing the root cause of quality issues.

• Support the design, implementation, and improvement of CLA's tax quality management system.

• Oversee internal inspections (including mid-ride check ins) and promote compliance with firm policies and professional standards.

• Analyze quality trends and inspection findings to identify opportunities for process improvement and risk reduction across the tax practice.

• Participate in annual review and update of tax-specific Statements of Work, the CLA Tax Manual, and other quality-related guidance.

• Collaborate with NTO specialty teams and practice leaders to identify and address emerging risks.

• Draft articles for Life in the Tax Lane on tax quality, risk management, professional standards, and best practices.

• Design and deliver internal training programs and just-in-time learning resources on quality-related topics.

What you will need:

• 10 years of relevant experience required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required
• CPA required (EA or JD may be accepted in lieu of CPA certification)
• Deep technical knowledge of tax law

The California posting range for this role is $165,000 - $400,000.
