Research Intern

The Muzzio Laboratory in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Iowa is seeking a full-time research technician to join our team. Our laboratory investigates the neural mechanisms underlying learning, memory, and sensory processing using behavioral, electrophysiological, calcium-imaging, and circuit-manipulation approaches in mice.

The technician will assist with animal behavior, colony management, experimental procedures, data collection and analysis, and general laboratory organization. Depending on experience and interest, the successful candidate may also receive training in stereotaxic surgery, miniscope calcium imaging, optogenetics, chemogenetics, and electrophysiology.

We are seeking a reliable, organized, and highly motivated individual who works well both independently and as part of a collaborative team. A bachelor's degree in neuroscience, psychology, biology, biomedical engineering, computer science, or a related field is preferred. Previous research experience is desirable but not required. Candidates with quantitative, programming, or data-analysis experience are especially encouraged to apply.

This position is particularly well suited for someone seeking additional research experience before applying to graduate school or another advanced degree program. A commitment of at least one year is preferred.
