About the School of Interactive Computing

The School of Interactive Computing (IC) aims to redefine the human experience of computing using two primary tools: research and innovation in computing education. Our school nurtures an open, inclusive, supportive environment made stronger through multiple perspectives and diverse expertise.

The School of Interactive Computing is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow to support several sponsored research projects.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for formulating novel methods in Artificial Intelligence and working with the Graduate Research Assistants to implement, evaluate, and refine those methods.

Key responsibilities include:

Develop, adapt, and deploy advanced ML algorithms for real-time neurophysiological data analysis.

Integrate AI-based optimization models into experimental and clinical workflows, including intraoperative and at-home settings.

Collaborate with neurosurgeons and neurologists to design and execute clinical research.

Maintain high standards of reliability and safety in human clinical environments.

Communicate effectively across technical and medical teams, contributing to publications and translational milestones.

Support the development and application of novel computational techniques for automated DBS programming.

Work with Graduate Research Assistants to implement, evaluate, and refine technical methods proposed on the sponsored project.

Disseminate research results through peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

PhD in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, robotics, computer science, or a related field.

Demonstrated publication record in machine learning or computational neuroscience.

Strong applied machine learning and signal processing expertise, including hands-on experience with reinforcement learning, Bayesian optimization, or deep learning applied to noisy, high-dimensional biological signals.

Familiarity with neurophysiological signals such as EMG, EEG, or intracranial recordings and their interpretation. Proficiency in Python and real-time systems, including data streaming and closed-loop control.

Ability to operate in clinical and surgical environments, manage complex data collection protocols, and engage respectfully with clinical staff and patients.

Experience with real-time or embedded systems preferred. Prior exposure to translational or intraoperative research environments is a plus.
