About the Job

The Department of Radiology, Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) is seeking to fill a Research Professional 5 position. This position will directly report to the CMRR engineering team supervisor. Maintenance work will encompass 50% of the work. The other 50% of the work will be RF coil technology research focused work with a CMRR PI.

Work Arrangement: The position is expected to work primarily on-site. Your work location will be on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus in the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research building. The Department retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.

Responsibilities:
RF coil technology research and development (50%)
* Design and develop innovative RF coils for research projects with CMRR investigators and engineers
o Utilizing CAD software to design mechanical components
o PCB layout and fabrication
o Simulate electromagnetic fields to optimize and validate RF coils
o Measure and optimize electrical circuit assemblies by utilizing various test equipment including vector network analyzers, power supplies, and oscilloscopes
* Conduct MRI experiments to verify and validate RF coil safety and performance
* Analyze experimental datasets for manuscript preparations
* Write technical manuscripts for presentations and publications
* Perform quality assurance checks on RF coils serviced by CMRR engineering group
* Educate and train engineering students

UHF system management and training (40%)
* Act as the primary point of contact for UHF system operators
o Train and certify 10.5T operators
o Assist UHF system operators with hardware/software troubleshooting
o Support Skope interface user training
* Act as a point of contact for UHF system service/maintenance
o Schedule magnets for UHF system maintenance
o Interface with Siemens for UHF systems
o Maintain UHF spaces and monitoring system
o Assist gradient replacements and installations

Cryogen filling (10%)
* Assist with 9.4T, 10.5T and 16.4T liquid helium fills
* Lead weekly liquid nitrogen fills at 9.4T
* Support helium recovery systems and transfers
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.

Required Qualifications:
* Advanced degree in a STEM-related field with 1 or more years of research training
* Experience with MRIs
* Ability to work in and around strong magnetic fields
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in a fabrication environment (Maker Space, R&D Lab or Shop)
* Experience with MRI systems and support

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $75,000- $95,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
