Assistant Professor in East Asian Comparative Literature/Film/Cultural Studies (tenure-track)

The Department of International Literary and Cultural Studies (ILCS) at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in East Asian Comparative Literature/Film/Cultural Studies, to begin September 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will join a diverse faculty dedicated to understanding the complexities of a changing world through literary, cinematic, and other expressions of human consciousness. We work collaboratively across our various language/culture areas and with other departments and programs, including International Relations, International Literary and Visual Studies, Film and Media Studies, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Responsibilities:

-Producing outstanding scholarship in areas related to the department and its programs.

-Teaching courses in support of both single-language/area-focused programs and our comparative track.

-Advising and mentoring of students, especially in theses and independent research projects.

-Service to the department, to the Chinese Program, and to the University.

-Building collaborative relationships with other academic programs and departments to foster cross-disciplinary exchange.

We give priority to scholars of Chinese who also work in Japanese or Korean but are also open to scholars who combine a specialization in Chinese with interests in other non-regional literary traditions. A PhD in a related humanities field completed by time of hire. Record of success as a college/university-level teacher, with publications in peer-reviewed venues preferred.
