Radiation Services Specialist

General Summary of Position:

The Radiation Services Specialist assists the Radiation Services Manager with gamma and neutron radiation services, communicates with facility users, performs experiment irradiations, handles and evaluates dosimetry, drafts detailed reports on experiment irradiations and creates experiment computer models as needed.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Assists the Radiation Services Manager in gamma and neutron radiation services. Communicates with facility users, addresses customer requirements, ensures all client requests are accurately resolved.

2. Assists in the set-up of experiments and performs experiment irradiations. Handles radioactive sources for use in experiment irradiations.

3. Prepares the use and fabrication of irradiation facilities apparatuses, uses EPR system to evaluate dosimetry results. Prepares detailed reports on experiment irradiations.

4. Trains to obtain USNRC Reactor Operators License.

5. Creates and maintains experiment computer models as needed.

6. Performs or assists in educational and outreach activities.

Other Job Duties:

• Interacts directly with facility users (faculty, students, staff, and commercial) to assure safe and efficient use of facilities.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

• Minimum 90 semester hours of coursework in Nuclear Engineering, Radiological Sciences, or a related field.
• 8+ years of active-duty U.S. Navy nuclear facility operations, or comparable experience working directly with ionizing radiation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Proficiency in CAD or computer programming preferred.

Additional Considerations:

• Must pass USNRC background investigation requirements for access to nuclear materials.

This position is full-time, benefited and in the Grants & Contracts union in grade P18. Anticipated salary based on qualifications and experience within the range. Minimum $72,170, 25th quartile: $82,093 and midpoint of $92,017.

This position is contingent upon funding.
