Working alongside investigators, research professionals, participants, and collaborators, you'll support the successful execution of clinical and observational studies while helping ensure the highest standards of quality, ethics, and participant engagement.

You will provide essential support across research operations, participant engagement, regulatory activities, data management, and study coordination. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in clinical research while contributing to studies that advance knowledge and improve patient care.

What You'll Do:

Research Operations & Participant Engagement



  • Support investigational product management, including inventory tracking, storage, ordering, and handling activities.
  • Recruit, screen, schedule, and support research participants according to study protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate study visits and prepare study materials, equipment, and documentation needed for participant interactions.
  • Conduct and document non-complex research visits, scripted interviews, questionnaires, and other protocol-driven activities.
  • Process, ship, track, and maintain research specimens and study-related supplies.
  • Support participant retention efforts and assist with participant reimbursement activities.
  • Participate in study team meetings and research-related activities.


Research Compliance & Ethics



  • Conduct informed consent discussions and documentation for minimal-risk and non-complex studies.
  • Monitor for potential adverse events and communicate findings to research team members.
  • Assist with the development of consent materials and participant communications.
  • Support Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and related regulatory documentation for designated studies.
  • Ensure research activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, protocols, and Duke policies.


Data Collection & Management



  • Collect, enter, verify, and maintain research data while following established quality standards.
  • Review and resolve missing, incomplete, or inaccurate data for assigned studies.
  • Generate reports, summaries, and study metrics to support investigators and project teams.
  • Follow data security, privacy, sharing, and repository requirements.
  • Assist with database maintenance, testing activities, reporting, data visualization, and study documentation.
  • Learn and apply new technologies and systems that support research operations.


Scientific & Study Support



  • Assist with literature searches and protocol development activities for straightforward studies.
  • Contribute to scientific presentations, publications, and dissemination activities.
  • Support study start-up, implementation, monitoring visits, site visits, and study closeout activities.
  • Maintain study records and documentation within clinical research management systems.


Professional Development & Team Collaboration



  • Pursue ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Share knowledge and support colleagues through collaboration and peer learning.
  • Communicate effectively with investigators, research staff, and study stakeholders to support successful study execution.
  • Stay informed about research best practices, institutional initiatives, and industry developments.

  • Ability to follow protocols, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.


Preferred Attributes



  • Experience supporting clinical, observational, survey, registry, or other research studies.
  • Familiarity with research compliance, IRB processes, and research management systems.
  • Experience with data collection, reporting, and basic data analysis activities.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $23.00 to USD $34.50. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
