Overview

The Tufts University School of Medicine Office of Graduate Student Services oversees admissions, recruitment, marketing, registration, career services, and student affairs for about 1,200 students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Master of Public Health (MPH), Physician Assistant (MMS PA), and Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MBS) programs, as well as the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences' certificate, master's, and doctoral offerings.

This position is offered as a fully remote role.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the Marketing Strategy Manager, the Communications Specialist develops and manages engaging, prospective-student-focused content across digital channels to support the recruitment and enrollment goals of the School of Medicine's graduate programs, such as DPT and PA. Working closely with the Marketing and Enrollment team, program leadership, faculty, students, and university partners, this position will help strengthen the visibility, consistency, and reach of the graduate programs through strategic, timely, and audience-centered communications.

The Communications Specialist will play a key role in developing and maintaining the graduate programs content ecosystem, with a particular focus on website content, social media, search engine optimization (SEO), answer engine optimization (AEO), and digital storytelling. This position will manage an editorial calendar and develop content that connects prospective students with programs, people, experiences, career opportunities, and resources across programs.

The Communications Specialist will create and publish a wide range of content, including website updates, blog articles, social media posts, email content, digital graphics, flyers, and short-form multimedia. The position will translate complex academic and program information into clear, compelling content across the graduate school decision-making process. This includes developing content that answers common questions, highlights student and alumni experiences, showcases faculty and research, and demonstrates the value and distinctiveness of the programs.

The ideal candidate is a versatile communicator and creative content producer who can move comfortably between writing, editing, digital content management, social media, search engine optimization/answer engine optimization, and visual design. They are highly organized, curious about higher education and graduate enrollment matters, attentive to audience needs, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a consistent editorial voice and visual identity.
  • Website, search engine optimization, and answer engine optimization Content Development
    • Create, write, edit, and maintain content across Graduate Programs websites.
    • Develop a consistent pipeline of search engine optimization/answer engine optimization-focused blogs, FAQs, and evergreen content that addresses prospective-student questions.
    • Interview students, alumni, faculty, and staff to develop stories.
    • Maintain an editorial calendar for web content aligned with recruitment and enrollment priorities.
    • Conduct keyword, search intent, and topic research to identify content opportunities.
    • Apply search engine optimization/answer engine optimization best practices to web content, including page structure, metadata, internal linking, and FAQs.
    • Use website analytics and search data to evaluate content performance and inform future development.
  • Social Media
    • Manage the social media calendar and day-to-day publishing for Graduate Programs' primary accounts.
    • Create, write, and edit platform-appropriate content highlighting programs, students, faculty, alumni, research, careers, and the graduate student experience.
    • Develop recurring content series and campaigns that support recruitment and prospective-student engagement.
    • Monitor engagement and performance to inform ongoing content development.
    • Help increase the consistency, frequency, and quality of programs' social media presence.
    • Interview students, alumni, faculty, and staff to develop stories and social content.
  • Visual and Multimedia Content
    • Design social media graphics, digital flyers, web graphics, and other marketing materials in accordance with Tufts brand standards.
    • Create short-form videos, animations, and other lightweight multimedia assets.
    • Repurpose existing photography, video, and other assets for digital channels.
    • Collaborate with multimedia specialist to extend the reach and utility of larger video projects
  • Collaboration and Communications Support
    • Partner with admissions, marketing manager, and program teams to support recruitment and enrollment priorities.
    • Build relationships with students, alumni, faculty, and staff to identify content opportunities.
    • Support communications for recruitment campaigns, events, admissions initiatives, and student and alumni stories.
    • Ensure content is accurate, accessible, and consistent with Tufts and School of Medicine brand standards.

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:
  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in areas such as communications/journalism, marketing/public relations, digital content, and/or social media.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing content for digital audiences.
  • Experience managing social media content and editorial calendars.
  • Exceptional writing skills in a variety of media.
  • Experience with website content management systems and digital publishing.
  • Photography and videography skills.
  • Strong visual storytelling and design skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in social media and contemporary media platforms.
  • Experience creating visual content using graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or similar platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or similar discipline.
  • Experience developing content for higher education, healthcare, science, or other related subject areas.
  • Experience with SEO, AEO, keyword research, and/or search-focused content strategy.
  • Experience using web analytics and social media analytics to evaluate content performance.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices for digital content.
  • Understanding of higher education recruitment and the prospective-student journey.
  • Ability to interview sources and develop stories from conversations and research.
  • Familiarity with WordPress or another CMS, Google Analytics, and social media management platforms.

Pay Range

Minimum $61,200.00, Midpoint $76,500.00, Maximum $91,800.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
