Job Summary

Claims Intern - Summer 2027
Get hands-on experience investigating real insurance claims while building skills that will set you apart after graduation.

At West Bend Insurance Company, interns don't spend their summer observing from the sidelines. You'll work alongside experienced claims professionals, learn how claims decisions are made, and gain meaningful experience evaluating losses, helping customers, and solving complex problems.
If you're curious, analytical, and enjoy helping people through challenging situations, this internship offers a unique opportunity to see how claims impacts our policyholders, agents, and communities every day.

What You'll Do
* Take ownership of property and casualty claims from initial review through resolution.
* Build relationships with customers, agents, attorneys, medical professionals, and other stakeholders to gather facts and move claims forward.
* Analyze policy language and claim details to determine coverage and next steps.
* Assess liability, damages, and overall claim exposure to support sound claim decisions.
* Contribute to reserve recommendations and help monitor claim trends and outcomes.
* Conduct investigations by reviewing records, interviewing involved parties, gathering statements, and evaluating evidence.
* Partner with claimants and other parties to negotiate fair settlements and achieve timely resolutions.
* Maintain thorough and accurate claim documentation while managing follow-up activities and key deadlines.
* Develop a strong foundation in claims handling, insurance principles, coverage analysis, and the legal concepts that support effective claim management.

What We're Looking For
* Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, or a related field.
* Anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or May 2028.
* Strong communication skills and a genuine desire to help others.
* Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Naturally curious with the ability to analyze information and think through challenges.
* Comfortable learning new technology and navigating a variety of systems and tools.
* Self-motivated and able to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
* Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to take on new opportunities and responsibilities.

Work Location

This position is an in-office role located in West Bend, WI. No remote opportunities for this position are available at this time.



Responsibilities & Qualifications

    Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in business, communications or insurance related field
    * Interpersonal skills
    * Effective problem solving skills
    * Excellent oral and written communication skills
    * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    * Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
    * Able to comprehend and utilize various computer programs


Salary Statement

The hourly pay for this position is $21.00+.
